SRI Japan Open (Good Company)
In 2003, the SuMi TRUST Group’s Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Asset Management started offering Japan’s first responsible investment fund (flagship RI fund) to corporate pension clients. Also known as the "Good Company" fund, it was also offered to a broad range of investors (including individuals), as a publicly offered investment trust, and has since become one of Japan’s leading responsible investment funds.
This fund aims to achieve excess returns against the benchmark index (TOPIX) by carefully selecting and investing in the shares of companies that actively address ESG issues for the purpose of enhancing corporate value.
China Good Company
Managed by the SuMi TRUST Group’s Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Asset Management, the China Good Company fund is an RI fund in which the investment methodology of Japan equity responsible investment funds is applied to Chinese stocks. Launched in 2010, it has attracted attention among European and US market participants as the world’s first China-equity responsible investment fund developed by an asset manager with no connections to financial institutions in China.
As part of the fund’s stock-picking process, ESG research is entrusted to the Japan Research Institute and a system is in place to receive negative information about investee companies as needed.
World Bank Green Bond Fund
Jointly developed by the SuMi TRUST Group’s Nikko Asset Management and the World Bank in 2010, this fund is characterized by targeting an allocation ratio of at least 30% in so-called "green bonds" issued by the World Bank. A green bond is a type of bond issued by the World Bank. In principle, they raise money to finance projects for tackling climate change in emerging countries. For this reason, this fund has garnered global attention as a way for investors to make real social contributions.
